Parliament of Ghana has confirmed that the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

In a brief statement released by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, parliamentary leadership said it is currently in contact with Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to gather detailed information surrounding the incident.

The statement said the Speaker of Parliament and the leadership of the House are monitoring the situation closely and that the public will be informed appropriately as more facts emerge.

At this stage, Parliament has not disclosed the reason for the detention, the duration of the MP’s custody, or whether any formal charges have been filed by Dutch authorities.

The development is already drawing national attention due to the senior public office involved and the international nature of the incident. Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam is one of Europe’s busiest international transit hubs and operates under strict European Union immigration, customs, and security enforcement protocols.

Further details are expected as Ghanaian diplomatic officials engage Dutch authorities in The Hague.
