Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, will serve as Guest of Honour and deliver the keynote address at The Africa Debate 2026 on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Guildhall in the City of London, according to an announcement by Invest Africa.

The event, now in its 12th year, is positioned as one of the United Kingdom’s leading platforms for high-level discussion on Africa’s economic future. This year’s theme, “Redefining Partnership: Navigating a World in Transition,” reflects a broader attempt to rethink how African economies engage global capital, geopolitical change, and shifting development priorities.

The announcement also marks the launch of a strategic partnership between Invest Africa and the Ghana High Commission in London, alongside the introduction of the Ghana Investment Summit. Taken together, the move signals a more deliberate effort by Ghana to convert diplomatic visibility in London into investment conversations around trade, finance, digitalisation, agribusiness, and energy.

Mahama’s participation is expected to place Ghana at the centre of that conversation.

According to Invest Africa, the President’s keynote will follow opening remarks from the UK Government and is expected to set the tone for discussions on regional leadership, investment mobilisation, and partnerships in key sectors. Organisers say Ghana’s role in this year’s programme is tied to its positioning around sustainability, innovation, regional integration, financial services, and the digital economy.

For Ghana, the significance of the event goes beyond protocol.

At a time when African governments are competing harder for capital, attention, and strategic partnerships, appearances at forums like The Africa Debate are no longer just ceremonial. They are part of a wider contest over narrative, credibility, and investor confidence. London remains one of the most important financial centres through which African governments, corporates, and investment agencies try to shape how their markets are understood by international decision-makers.

That is why Ghana’s visibility at this forum matters.

Invest Africa CEO Chantelé Carrington said Mahama’s presence comes at “a moment of real momentum in Ghana’s investment story,” pointing to his leadership on green growth, regional integration, financial services, and the digital economy. She also described the Ghana High Commission in London as an important representative of Ghana’s economic opportunities in the UK.

Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sabah Zita Benson, framed the event as part of a broader shift from conversation to implementation. In her remarks, she said Ghana was ready to move “beyond dialogue to decisive action,” focused on mobilising investment, strengthening partnerships, and delivering measurable impact.

The Africa Debate 2026 is expected to convene more than 800 senior stakeholders from government, finance, and industry. The programme will include presidential and ministerial keynotes, plenary sessions, and side events examining how African countries can redesign partnerships to support resilient and sustainable growth.

At the centre of the argument is a simple question: in a more fragmented global economy, what kind of partnerships will actually work for Africa?

Ghana appears to be using this platform to offer its own answer, positioning itself not just as a participant in that conversation, but as one of the countries trying to lead it.

Why this matters
This is not just about a speech in London. It is about Ghana trying to strengthen its place in the Africa–UK investment corridor at a time when countries are being forced to compete more aggressively for capital, policy influence, and strategic relevance.
